LCA & LCVP

Leaving Certificate Applied (LCA)

This distinct two-year senior programme is aimed at preparing students for adult and working life with an emphasis on forms of achievement and excellence which the established Leaving Certificate has not recognised in the past. Assessment is on a continuous basis with practicals, interviews, and project work combined with terminal written exam papers among the types of assessment used. Students from LCA progress to Third Level colleges via the Post Leaving Certificate (PLC) route or progress via apprenticeships or directly into the world of work.

Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP)

Students who choose to study the Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme take link modules in Enterprise Education, Preparation for Work and Work Experience. The focus is on enterprise and self-directed learning and assessment is by a portfolio of coursework (60%) and a written exam (40%). LCVP grades can be used with the CAO points system with a Distinction equal to 66 points.
