🕯️ Opening Year School Mass – St Mary’s Secondary School 🕯️
Last Friday, our whole school community came together in our school hall for our Opening Year School Mass, marking the beginning of another school year in St Mary’s.
We were delighted to welcome Fr John Carroll, who is new to our parish, and we are very grateful to him for joining us and celebrating Mass with our school community.
Our theme for this year’s celebration was Remembering the past, appreciating the present and looking forward to the future. It was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on our rich history and the strong traditions that have shaped St Mary’s, while also looking forward with hope and ambition to the year ahead.
As a CEIST school in the Mercy tradition, our values of compassion, respect, inclusion, service and community remain at the heart of all that we do. We are proud of our Mercy heritage and of the responsibility we have to continue that tradition, ensuring that every student is supported to reach her full potential.
A particularly special part of our celebration was the presentation of our newly elected 6th Year Prefects and Meitheal Leadership Teams . In keeping with tradition, our student leaders were presented with their badges and proudly recited theirMercy Promise in front of the entire school community. We wish them every success as they take on these important leadership roles and become positive role models for our younger students.
A sincere thank you to everyone who helped make our Opening Year Mass such a special occasion — Fr John, our Religion and Music Departments, our staff, students, readers, musicians, those involved in the preparation and set-up, and everyone who contributed in so many different ways.
As we begin the new school year, we wish all of our students, teachers, SNAs, school staff and their families a happy, healthy and successful year ahead.
May St Mary’s continue to grow from strength to strength, building on our past, embracing the present and looking forward to the future together.
And, in the words of our Mercy tradition, may we continue to be shining lamps for others. 🕯️💙
